If you go to the ballot box on June 5, choose the Republican ballot, write in Bowen Greenwood for clerk of the Supreme Court, and darken the oval, that is only the last step. And it’s not even the main one.

It’s not enough for you to get one vote. For this to work, you have to get dozens. No, you don’t have to live in Chicago! You just have to tell your friends and family.

A write-in campaign on a statewide level, for an office like Clerk of the Supreme Court that most people never knew existed, with a name like Bowen that’s hard to remember or spell — well, there’s a verse from the bible that covers it perfectly: “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Right now, there is no Republican candidate for Clerk of the Supreme Court. If we don’t act, there will be no one representing our party on the ballot in November. The filing deadline has already passed, and that means there’s only one way to get a Republican candidate on the ballot: we have to write him in.

Under Montana law, if 11,186 of us write in Bowen Greenwood for Clerk of the Supreme Court in the Republican primary, we will be able to place that name on the ballot in November.

Jesus is the first and most important thing in my life.

I am also a conservative, a fierce advocate of Second Amendment rights, a supporter of natural resource development here in Montana, and a believer that leaving individuals completely free to make their own choices results in better choices for everyone — choices that make us all happier, more prosperous, and more peaceful. In politics, lots of people talk about “the free market,” but I think some folks have forgotten what it means. The free market isn’t some term for Wall Street or bankers. It just means individual people making economic decisions on their own.

I currently work at the headquarters of the Montana Republican Party. In the past, I have worked with people who are Deaf or hard of hearing, in the Secretary of State’s office, for the Montana legislature, and as a reporter and freelance writer.

In my spare time, I enjoy guns and hunting — not the same thing! — and also motorcycles, hiking, fishing, and woodworking.

Why Write In Anyone For This Office?

The Clerk of the Montana Supreme Court doesn’t seem like a very important office to a lot of people. Why should we bother to write anyone in? Why not just let the incumbent Democrat and the Libertarian candidate have things to themselves?

First of all, it is important to give Republican voters a choice who stands for their beliefs. Bowen Greenwood is a strong believer in the Republican principles of smaller government, lower taxes, stronger families, and a stronger American military. Republican voters deserve to have a choice on the line who reflects those beliefs.

Second, in the November general election, having a Republican candidate in this race will matter to all the Republican candidates further down the ballot. As people are in the voting booths in November they will cast ballots for Senate, Governor, state legislature, county commission and others. If they like the Republican candidate for Senate, and for U.S. House, and for Governor, they may be inclined to keep supporting Republicans as they move down the ballot. But if they then hit a race where there is no Republican candidate, that streak could be broken. Having a Republican candidate in this race may help voters who are generally voting Republican to keep on voting Republican as they go down the ballot.

How Does a Write In Work?

A completed write-in ballot.

On your ballot, as you vote in the various offices, you should reach a box for Clerk of the Supreme Court. In that box, there should be an oval next to a blank line.

On the blank line, write: Bowen Greenwood

Then darken the oval as you would any other race.

This write-in campaign will only work in the Montana Republican Primary. Because of the way the rules work, writing in Bowen Greenwood in the Democrat primary won’t produce any results.
